Larry E. Patterson is the medical director of Eye Centers of Tennessee and a nationally known leader in the field of cataract and refractive surgery. Among many firsts, Dr. Patterson was the first physician in East Tennessee to perform Refractive Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (ReLACS).

Dr. Patterson has seven amazing grandchildren. He has also been a private pilot for over ten years. When he’s not seeing patients, there’s a good chance he’s up flying somewhere!

Dr. Patterson's scientific articles and papers have appeared in numerous professional and medical publications. He serves as Chief Medical Editor for Ophthalmology Management and he has given numerous presentations for professional organizations around the world. Dr. Patterson received his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Patterson's passion is treating residents in underprivileged countries like the Island Kingdom of Tonga. He traveled there in 2000 and performed cataract and minor surgeries on many of their residents. He has made several trips to Mexico but frequents Guatemala the most. He has been there nine times and had one of his most memorable experiences while he was there. He was able to restore sight to a young lady who was blind from cataracts and the lady was able to see her baby for the first time.
